Trauma-Focused Counseling
Your next chapter can feel different.
Trauma therapy in Brooklyn and virtually across New York. If your past is shaping your present, our trauma-trained therapists can help you get to the root.

Compassionate care. At your pace.
You are welcome here
You may not use the word trauma for what happened to you. Plenty of people don't. It was a long time ago. Other people had it worse. You handled it.
And yet here you are, years later, and something about it is still running the show.
Trauma can look like this
Trauma does not always look like a memory. Often it looks like a pattern you cannot explain to yourself:
- Struggling to speak up at work and in your personal life
- Difficulty drawing boundaries, and real trouble saying no
- Taking on other people's problems as if they were yours
- Neglecting your own care until something breaks
More about trauma can look like this
None of that reads like a crisis from the outside. That is exactly why it goes untreated for so long.
Why depression and anxiety so often come with it
Peace-Filled specializes in working with people who have a history of trauma, and there is a pattern we see constantly: many people who have been traumatized find themselves battling depression and anxiety years later, without ever connecting the two.
More about why depression and anxiety so often come with it
The nervous system learned something once, under pressure, and it never got the message that the pressure ended. Treating the anxiety alone can help. Treating what taught the anxiety changes more.
How we work with this
Our therapists are specially trained to address the roots of trauma and to give you tools for meeting everyday life with a steadier mind.
More about how we work with this
We work toward the "why." Not to make you relive anything on demand, and not faster than you want to go — the pace belongs to you. But when the root is addressed rather than managed, what sits on top of it starts to shift.
We do not apply one method to everyone. Your therapist will choose the approach that fits you, and adjust it as you change. What stays the same is the direction and the relationship.
Your background is part of this. Everyone's healing journey is different, and what happened to you happened inside a family, a culture, and a community. We treat all of it as part of the work.
What starting looks like
You do not need to have the story organized before you come. You do not need to know whether it "counts."
More about what starting looks like
Early sessions are about safety and understanding — what is happening now, what it is costing you, and what you want to be different. The history comes when you are ready for it, not before.
What healing actually looks like
Once the "why" is addressed, clients tell us they find themselves:
- More confident and more self-motivated
- Excelling because of that new confidence
- Making life happen instead of letting life happen to them
- Using healthy tools for challenges that used to flatten them
- Letting go of relationships that were never good for them
Crisis resources
If you are in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), available 24/7. In an emergency, call 911. Peace-Filled is not a crisis service and messages are not monitored around the clock.
