Depression and Mood
A place to begin again.
Depression counseling in Brooklyn and virtually across New York. For when you are functioning on the outside and running on empty underneath.

Compassionate care. At your pace.
You are welcome here
You are still getting up. Still going to work, still answering the messages, still showing up for the people who need you.
And still, underneath it, something has gone quiet. The things that used to matter have flattened out. You are functioning — and that is precisely why nobody has noticed.
Depression does not always look like sadness
For many people it looks like this instead:
- Exhaustion that sleep does not touch
- Going through the motions competently and feeling nothing
- Losing interest in what you used to enjoy
- Irritability arriving faster than it used to
- Withdrawing quietly, and telling yourself you are just busy
- A steady sense that you are failing at something you cannot name
More about depression does not always look like sadness
You do not have to be unable to function before this is worth treating. Holding it together at high cost is a symptom, not proof that you are fine.
How we work with this
We start with what you actually believe about yourself and your situation, because that is where depression does its steadiest damage — the conclusions it draws quietly, then presents to you as facts.
More about how we work with this
Our work looks at those conclusions directly. What you believe about a situation shapes how you respond, and how you respond shapes how you feel afterward. When the first one moves, the rest follows. That is not positive thinking; it is noticing where an old conclusion is running unexamined and testing whether it still holds.
Alongside that, the work is practical: rebuilding the small routines that carry mood — sleep, movement, food, connection — at a scale that is actually possible when you have no energy. Not a life overhaul. One or two things that hold.
We also look underneath. Many people who have experienced trauma find themselves battling depression years later. If that is part of your story, your therapist will work there too.
Your therapist chooses the approach that fits you. No single method is applied to everyone.
If you have no energy to start
This is the cruelty of depression: it takes away the exact resource you need to get help.
More about if you have no energy to start
So we make the first step as small as we can. One message. One call. Our team follows up and handles the matching, the scheduling, and the insurance questions so that the only thing you have to do is show up.
Crisis resources
If you are thinking about harming yourself, you deserve support right now. Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), available 24/7. In an emergency, call 911. Peace-Filled is not a crisis service and messages are not monitored around the clock.
