Family and Relationships
Make room for connection.
Family and relationship counseling in Brooklyn and across New York. For households where the same argument keeps happening and nobody feels heard.

Compassionate care. At your pace.
You are welcome here
It is the same argument. It has been the same argument for a long time.
Different trigger every week — the phone, the grades, the tone, the money — and the same shape underneath every time. Everyone has their line. Nobody feels heard. And at some point the household stopped being a place anyone relaxes in.
Nobody here is looking for the problem person
Families often arrive braced for a verdict. Someone is expecting to be told this is their fault, and someone else is quietly hoping it will be.
More about nobody here is looking for the problem person
That is not how we work. Family therapy is designed to improve the health of the household as a whole, and to understand how one person's behavior is affecting everyone else — which is a very different question from whose fault it is.
Usually what we find is a pattern that everyone is participating in and nobody designed.
What we work on
We also work with families through the harder transitions: separation, loss, a new household, a member struggling with their mental health, and the strain those put on everyone in the building.
- Communication — being heard, and hearing, without it becoming a fight
- Parent-child relationships — rebuilding connection when it has gone quiet or hostile
- Conflict between siblings
- Issues between couples — see our couples therapy page
- Consultation for families needing guidance on a specific situation
How the work goes
We start by understanding how the household actually runs — who talks to whom, what happens when something goes wrong, and where the pattern repeats.
More about how the work goes
From there the work is on the pattern rather than the people. What each person believes about the others shapes how they respond, and those responses shape what everyone believes next. That loop is where families get stuck, and it is also where they get unstuck.
Much of it is practical: how to raise something difficult without it detonating, how to repair after a fight instead of going silent, and how to hold a boundary without it reading as rejection.
Not everyone has to attend every session. Sometimes the most useful work happens with one part of the family at a time.
Approach is matched to your family. Nothing is applied from a template.
When a child or teen is at the centre of it
If your household is organized around one young person's difficulties, family work often runs alongside individual therapy for them.
More about when a child or teen is at the centre of it
We encourage parents to take part in collateral sessions with their child's therapist so that what happens here holds at home. Several of our clinicians came to this work through schools and know how quickly a child's difficulty becomes the whole family's difficulty.
